Bye bye locs

Hello beauties! It has been a very long time since I have updated this blog. I’m sorry. This was my last semester of my bachelor year in college. I worked so hard during this semester that I really didn’t have a chance to update you ladies on what’s been going on. As you read in the title I have gotten rid of my locs. When I posted on Facebook that I was getting rid of my locs everyone said ” OMG you’re cutting your hair off?”. No no no I didn’t cut my hair. I actually combed each loc out one by one. It took roughly 15 hours of elbow grease for my mother to take them down.
I decided to remove my locs for a number of reasons. My first reason is because I was having major hair issues and I was only able to wear my hair in certain styles which drove me crazy. My second reason is because I think hair is an expression of how you feel and I no longer felt that my locs were expressing how I felt on the outside or inside. And my third reason is because I just felt like I wanted and needed a change. And what better change is there than a hair change?

Tasty Lentil Spinach Stew Recipe

I got this recipe from this really cool food blog called Jaime’s Kitchen. I have made this soup on numerous occasions. I find this recipe easy and tasty. I like to cook it on Sunday so I can take it to school for the next few days. This recipe serves 7 people but I usuallyuse half the ingredients in the recipe  because I’m the only person in my house that eats soup. The name of the recipe is called Lentil spinach stew but once you taste it you’ll understand why I added the tasty part!

Ingredients:

  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 medium onion chopped (1/2 a cup)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (I used olive oil)
  • 1 cup dry lentils
  • 4 cups vegetable broth (or 4 cups + 4 tsp vegetable bouillon)
  • 10 oz frozen spinach
  • 7.5 oz can of chopped/diced tomatoes (I used the can with jalapeños)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp thyme
  • ½ tsp fennel seeds, crushed
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 tb. Worcester sauce
  • 1 tb. Balsamic vinegar
  • 2 medium carrots, diced (1 cup)

Cooking Instructions:

Chop garlic cloves and chop onion. Heat oil in large saucepan or dutch oven. Heat onions and garlic in oil until they are caramelized. Add dry lentils, broth, tomatoes, salt, pepper, thyme, bay leaf, and fennel seeds. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Add frozen spinach and carrots. Bring to a boil again. Break apart frozen spinach with a fork as needed. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer another 10-15 minutes until lentils and carrots are tender. Remove bay leaf. Stir in vinegar and Worcester sauce.

Serve hot! Enjoy!!!!!

My neck my back do some Yoga just like that!

Hello everybody! I woke up this morning with yoga on my mind. I ate a little breakfast and changed into some comfy yoga clothing to begin my yoga workout. I unrolled my mat and followed Chris Fretag as she began doing the downward facing dog. And just as I was getting into my downward facing dog I realized I couldn’t perform the pose because my neck was as stiff as a board. Ouch! So I went on YouTube and search for Yoga moves for my achy breaky neck. To my surprise there were tons of clips for problem neck. I clicked on the first clip and began doing the moves and poof my neck pain vanished. I am so serious! Once I finished the clip my once stiff neck turned into a nice normal part of my body! Thank God for yoga! Since we are still in Yoga month I will post the video below. Try it and tell me how your neck feels after the video.

Not so False

When I saw the advertisements for Maybelline’s© Falsies Mascara, I thought “yeah right”. These models are really wearing false eyelashes and Maybelline needs to stop trying to come between me and my hard earned cash. Mascara is one of those makeup elements that can make or break your look, there are a lot of days that I won’t wear eye shadow, but I rarely ever leave the house without mascara. When my mascara approached its chuck date (3months) I was in desperate need of something to replace the product I grew to love while living in Korea. Maybelline is a brand I know, and I thought heck “I can’t get another drop outta my old mascara anyway.”

I lucked out; my tube of Maybelline Falsies mascara was on sale at Walgreens and only cost me six dollars. Already off to a good start, I ran home and put on my first coat. “Wow” was the first word out of my mouth, followed by “this stuff actually works!” I was so excited; the curved brush took my wimpy eyelashes from zero to ten in two coats. Yes!! I’ve found the love of my life, well at least the love of my make-up bag.

The curved brush virtually spoons the mascara on to your lashes

*tip- Keep a few cotton swabs dipped in liquid eye makeup remover to handle any smudges on the eyelid.

The difference is really noticeable. (Left eye has mascara, right eye is bare)
